Privacy policy
Draft, not yet in effect. The details in brackets are filled in before Zoku launches.
Zoku is an app for rating, reviewing and ranking the anime you watch. This policy says what Zoku keeps about you, why, who can see it, and how to delete it. The short version: Zoku keeps what you put into it so it can show it back to you, it never sells it, and you can delete all of it from the app at any time.
Who runs Zoku
Zoku is run by [OWNER] (“we” and “us” in this policy). For anything about your data, email [CONTACT EMAIL].
What Zoku keeps
Your account
- Your email address, so Zoku can send you sign-in codes. Zoku has no passwords.
- Your username, and a display name if you set one.
What you put into Zoku
- Your season logs: whether you're watching, finished or dropped a season, your scores, your tags, your review and its spoiler section, and when you finished.
- Your final verdicts on finished shows: a score and a review.
- Your ranking, and its history: where each show sits, and a record of each time you placed, moved or removed a show, and each time you changed a verdict's score.
- Finales you've chosen to skip.
What's recorded while you use it
- Our hosting provider keeps short-lived logs of requests to Zoku's servers, which include your IP address, your device's app version, and when each request was made. We use them to keep Zoku working and to find problems.
- A count of your recent requests for show information, so no one account can overload Zoku.
- When you ask for a sign-in code, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you're a person and not a script, using signals from your device and its browser engine. Most people never see it.
Zoku doesn't collect your contacts, location, photos or advertising identifier. It has no ads, no analytics, and no tracking across other apps or websites.
Why Zoku keeps it
- To run your account and show you your logs, verdicts and ranking.
- To send the codes you sign in with.
- To keep Zoku secure and stop abuse, such as automated sign-ups or scraping.
- To find and fix problems.
We don't sell your information, and we don't share it with anyone for advertising. If you're in the European Economic Area or the UK, our legal basis is that we need this information to provide the service you signed up for, plus our legitimate interest in keeping Zoku secure.
Who can see it
Zoku is a place for fans to share their opinions. Other signed-in Zoku users can see your username, display name, scores, tags, reviews, verdicts and ranking. Spoiler sections are hidden until someone chooses to reveal them, but they aren't private. Write only what you're happy for other fans to read.
Your email address is never shown to anyone.
Services Zoku uses
These companies process information for us, only to provide their service to Zoku:
- Supabase hosts Zoku's database, sign-in and server functions. Your account and everything you put into Zoku is stored there, in the United States.
- Resend sends the emails with your sign-in codes.
- Cloudflare runs the Turnstile check when you ask for a sign-in code, and hosts these pages. Signing in depends on it.
- TMDB (The Movie Database) supplies show information and artwork. Posters and backdrops load on your device straight from TMDB's servers, so TMDB sees your IP address and which images were asked for. Zoku sends TMDB nothing about you.
What stays on your phone
To be quick and to work offline, Zoku keeps some things on your phone: your sign-in session, unsaved log and verdict drafts, your recent searches, show information, and a copy of your ranking, verdicts and profile (kept up to 30 days). Signing out or deleting your account removes your account's copies from the phone. Show information isn't about you, so it can stay as a cache.
How long Zoku keeps it, and deleting it
Zoku keeps your information for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings, then Delete account. Deleting is immediate and permanent. Your profile, logs, reviews, verdicts, ranking and its history are deleted at once, and can't be brought back.
Records in our providers' logs, such as request logs and email delivery records, are kept by them for a short time and then deleted. Show information stays in Zoku, since it isn't yours.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the information Zoku holds about you, to correct it, to delete it, to get a copy of it, and to object to how it's used. You can correct and delete everything from the app. For anything else, email [CONTACT EMAIL] and we'll answer within 30 days. If you're in the European Economic Area or the UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority. California residents: Zoku doesn't sell or share personal information as California law defines those terms.
Children
Zoku isn't for children under 13, or under the minimum age for using online services without a parent's consent where you live. We don't knowingly keep information about them. If you think a child has an account, email [CONTACT EMAIL] and we'll delete it.
Where your information goes
Zoku's information is stored and processed in the United States. Where the law requires it, our providers use recognised safeguards, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, for information that leaves the European Economic Area or the UK.
Security
Everything travels over encrypted connections. Each account can change only its own information, and the keys that can do more never leave our servers. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep yours safe, and we'll tell you if something goes wrong that affects you.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version goes here with a new date. If a change matters, Zoku will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
